In 1955, during the legendary Mille Miglia, the Mercedes 300SL #417 was driven by legendary American racer John Fitch, one of the first U.S. drivers to make a mark in European motorsport.  

This 300SL Coupé, with its iconic gullwing doors, competed in the touring car class, standing out for its speed and reliability on Italy’s tough roads.  

Winner of the race in GT +1.3 class, its participation marked the beginning of Mercedes-Benz’s expansion into international racing beyond Formula 1.
