Q. Can I personalise my RMS system by including an image of me within the Driver section of RMS?

A. Yes, you can add a picture of yourself to the Driver pictures in the RMS Pit Lane. From the original picture source (i.e. Digital Camera, Scanner, etc) create a bmp file. The file does not need to be larger than 58 x 58 pixels but it must be square. Save the picture in C:Program FilesScalextric Sport RMSDrivers folder as a bmp file. Start RMS and go to Pit Lane.
1: Click the ÑNew DriverÒ icon. A grey driver picture appears (above) in the driver detail panel and (below) in the Drivers table.
2: Right-click on the grey driver in the driver detail panel (above).
3: A Windows file explorer panel will open. Navigate to the Drivers folder and select the new driver image you saved in this folder.
4: The driver detail panel (above) and the Drivers table (below) now display the new driver image. You can now use the new image in the TodayÒs Driver section.
5: Click on the driver name to edit it with a name of your choice. Amend age, nationality and select the car or your choice.
6: Double-click or drag-and-drop the driver picture from the Drivers panel to the ÓTodayÒs DriverÔ list. You have now personalised your RMS system by including an image of yourself within RMS. Now you can repeat the above exercise for all your friends, family and competitors.

Q. Does RMS work with Windows 2000 & XP?

A. RMS has been installed on Windows 2000 & XP and appears to run without any problems. However, RMS has ONLY been extensively tested on Windows 95 & 98 and is therefore recommended for use with Windows 95 & 98.

Q. Downloading car images: I can't download cars from the website. Was OK before but ability to do so has mysteriously stopped.

A. Applicable to Versions 1.0 to 1.15.
RMS (unfortuantely) only allows a mximum of 150 cars in the library. Since September 2003, there are now over 150 car images available to download. Therefore, you will have to delete the cars you don't need in order to add the cars you do need. This bug will be ironed out in the next update.

Race Management System

Q. Downloads: Downloading car images from the Scalextric website to RMS. Add a car to your collection that is not on RMS.

A. If your last car images download was pre 8th January 2003: Remove and re-install RMS. You can place your own pictures into RMS in the following way : Place a picture in bitmap form into the folder C:Program FilesScalextric Sport RMSCars. Run RMS, open Pit Garage and click on Ñnew carÒ then Ñclick to download imageÒ. Find the file you saved then alter the description of the car by clicking on the text. You can load car images if your RMS PC is not connected to the Internet. You can transfer the files from a internet connected PC with RMS installed to your standalone RMS PC. Copy the required car files from the 'Cars' directory described above on to floppy disk and copy them to your standalone PC to the same directory.

Q. Graphics Problems: More...

A. Problem: Message on screen - "FREQ. OUT OFF RANGE" HF 165,71 VF 239,92 An then screen becomes black Graphic card: NVIDIA G Force4ti 4200 128 mb ram Software: DirectX9 Resolution: Problem resolved by installing DirectX8. Note: Also read alternative actions for this problem described in previous FAQ above.

Q. Graphics Problems?
1:What does Ñallow display changeÒ mean?
2:What font size should I use?
3:Monitor DPI setting!
4:Force a 640-480 screen size for RMS on a larger screen size setting.
5:My screen size is 640-480!

A. 1: When RMS starts, if this option is set to ÑNoÒ then it will run using your graphics configuration. If it is set to ÑYesÒ, then RMS will alter the display to its own full screen configuration and return back to yours on exit.
2: Laptop users can change the icon font size on hi res. screens. RMS will only display properly with "Small fonts" selected in the Display section of the Control panel. Many such laptops come set to "large fonts" to assist viewing but you may wish to change this to Small fonts when using RMS!
3:If the RMS images are not appearing in the correct areas of the screen then FOR MONITORS: a high DPI setting for large monitors may be turned on. Simply turn it off and restart RMS to see the results. FOR LAPTOPS: Choose Display form the Control Panel. Click on the Settings tab. Click the button labelled Advanced. There's a DPI option. Set the DPI to Normal (which often is 96 dpi).
This is different from the font size setting which offers regular, large and extra large.
4: Force the RMS software to stay at 640x480 on a larger screen display by changing the icon properties by adding the '-g' switch. For example: "C:Program FilesScalextric Sport RMSPCInteractive.exe" -g
5: The software has to have at least 800x600 screen resolution. A screen size of only 640x480 is not high enough for RMS (specified as 800x600 minimum on the CD/box).

Q. I have installed RMS in the wrong language.

A. You will need to uninstall RMS and reinstall ensuring you select your chosen language. To do this, go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove Scalextric Sport RMS, then delete the Scalextric Sport RMS folder from C:Program Files. Reinstall RMS.

Q. Laps do not register when cars pass over RMS track.

A. 1. Check RMS powerbase track is level. Sometimes when fitting track to make a circuit, a slight bend may appear in the centre causing cars to miss the lever in the track. Update: 18/10/02 Tests have shown that the RMS track piece and any other track pieces with actuators, sensors or lane changing elements are susceptible to error. It is particularly important with the RMS track piece to ensure that the track section leading on to the RMS section and the RMS section are BOTH level. This is to help ensure that the car blade guide doesn't launch over the sensor aggravated by a 'ramp' effect from the previous track section. This can't be stressed to strongly as even a small uneveness will give inconsistent results and detract from your enjoyment. Therefore, spend a little time finding the optimum track positioning to ensure accurate lap counting before you start having fun running practice, qualifying or races.

2. Ensure all leads are connected securely and that the COM port in the options screen matches the one you are connected to.

3. Some older cars are very light at the front. This may cause them to jump the lever at high speeds. To rectify this you can either move the RMS track to a slow part of the track or weight the front of the car down.

4. Close RMS and restart your PC, then try RMS again.

Q. Laps do not register.... for advanced users.

A. If you are prepared and confident to roll your sleeves up and you have a small screwdriver, please follow the following instructions to adjust the RMS track piece. The contacts that are closed by the cam which is activated by the guide blade running through the RMS track slot can become misaligned. Turn the RMS track piece over. Remove the base. Observe the contact springs which are pushed together when a guide blade swings the black cam against the contacts. Ensure that the contacts are parallel and not overlapping. Manually operate the cam to check that the contacts firmly touch. The likely cause is that the contacts are mis-aligned. Adjust them so that good contact is made when passing a guide blade through the slot against the cam. Test whilst connected to RMS computer. When satisfied that the contacts are in their optimal position to give 100% readings use some UHU type glue to set them in place. Replace base being careful not to allow the wires to obstruct the movement of the cam and contacts. Re-test. Happy Racing, Adrian Norman Scalextric Enthusiasts Web Community Hornby PLC

Q. My lead does not seem to fit anywhere on my computer.

A. Ensure your computer is fitted with a COM port. Some new computers are not fitted with any COM ports. If this is the case, then as stated in the system requirements, your computer is not compatible with RMS. RMS V1 requires a COM port. However, a PC/laptop with a USB port (with no COM port) may be used as the owners discretion by using a USB/COM port converter. However, this may or may not work depending on the specification of the computer. Using the USB port is NOT supported by RMS software but enthusiasts have reported that it can work OK dependent upon the computer.

Q. My screen displays ÓRMS not in drive, please exit and insert RMS diskÔ.

A. This may occur when your drive has a name other than D, to rectify this problem you need to right click on the RMS shortcut and click on properties, change target to:

C:Program FilesScalextricSport RMSpcinteractive.exe Öd:.

Q. On loading RMS the customer receives this error message "0x800070725 Incompatible version of the rpc stub".

A. This is a known problem with Installshield and other programs. If the problem is occuring during the install then it is definately a problem with Installshield which is used to install RMS. A fix for the problem is described at the following Microsoft page web page. Fix at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B318943

Q. Q: Because I have a long circuit the car doesn't collect a pit stop penalty when it misses the pit stop.

A. A: On a circuit that normally takes longer than 7 seconds to complete it is possible to complete a lap only after the entire refuelling process has completed. When this situation occurs the car will not incur a one-lap penalty. When this is the case, it is down to the good sportsmanship of the drivers to make sure they stop. Alternatively, a Race Controller can supervise. Bug fix will be available this month (Jan 03) so watch this space. Jan 31st, 2003: The RMS downloadable update has now fixed this by extending the Pit Stop to 15 seconds.

Q. RMS installs OK but it is all UPSIDE DOWN!

A. This appears to happen sometimes on newer flat screen monitors. To overcome this force the RMS software to stay at 640x480 on a larger screen display by changing the desktop icon properties by adding the '-g' switch. For example: "C:Program FilesScalextric Sport RMSPCInteractive.exe" -g

Q. RMS Qualifying and Race tips.

A. RMS specification is based around the Formula 1 idea. Select a circuit. Enter drivers and cars Set up the Championship (No. of heats) Start Qualifying Start the Race (race heats). Qualifying: Stage 1: When you click on Qualifying there are no drivers selected. Think of this as a pre-Qualifying mode or a Practice mode. You can add drivers to the lanes, take them out, etc, as much as you like. The data is not stored. Stage 2: Start Qualifying This only begins when you click on the Lights. When the lights are Green, qualifying has started. Like Formula 1, a driver might not want to qualify immediately but prefer to wait until other cars have been out to qualify! Therefore, there are no drivers selected at this point. The enthusiast has to select a lane, select his name and run his qualifying session. Each driver has three timed laps which are run thus: warm up lap, timed lap, warm up lap, timed lap, warm up lap, timed lap. So, don't worry if you think RMS is only counting every other lap - it IS only counting every other lap! The Results are shown when ALL drivers have completed there qualifying. Race: When Race mode is entered, the drivers are placed in to the lanes as per the Championship table set up. The Qualifying results are not carried forward to the Race. The racer can position his car on the grid as per his Qualifying result (just like Formula 1). Happy racing, Adrian Norman Scalextric Enthusiasts Web Community Hornby Hobbies Ltd.

Q. RMS: Track Design section. How do I store my own inventory of track pieces?

A. This can be done outside of the RMS program. Do not attempt this if you are not familiar with editing files. Follow this procedure. 1/ Open Windows Explorer. 2/ Navigate to C:/Program Files/Scalextric Sport RMS/data 3/ Copy file tsegs.dat to 'Copy of tsegs.dat'. 4/ Select file tsegs.dat and right click the file and select Open With... Notepad. 5/ You should see over 50 lines of track piece information. The last number on each line is YOUR INVENTORY. Edit these numbers to suit your inventory. 6/ Save the file. 7/ Start RMS and go to the Track Design section. You will now see your inventory. Note: If you mess the tsegs.dat file up simply delete it and rename the copy 'Copy of tsegs.dat' file to 'tsegs.dat' and start again. Jan 31st, 2003: The RMS downloadable update (V1.12) has addressed these issues and all is OK now.

Q. When I click on the icon to start I get the following Error Message " PCINTERACTIVE caused an invalid page fault in module OLE32.DLL at 0157:7ff947c5.

A. Install Internet Explorer 5.

Race Management System

Q. Where are the car images to download from the website?

A. The images and video clips on the website can only be accessed via RMS on your PC. RMS will connect to the internet and the Scalextric website and display the images. When you click on a car image the download process will commence and two image files will be downloaded in to RMS and will automatically be placed in the correct car group e.g. Rally, Touring, etc. It is not possible to view the car images directly on the Scalextric website.
